Today and tomorrow the Climathon Torino 2020, the local edition of the world climate ideas marathon, will take place completely online.
The participants of the co-design marathon are more than seventy divided into thirteen teams characterised by creative and original names such as the preliminary projects of their proposals.
Together with Turin, more than 100 cities in the world will participate in Climathon at the same time.
The environmental challenge of Turin aims at the regeneration of the "ex Combi" area, located in the Olympic area behind the Department of Economics and Management.
But how will the re-design of this area take place?
For the regeneration of the Combi Area will have to be designed Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) inspired by the European project "proGireg", actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems, that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously providing human well-being and biodiversity benefits.
Urban gardens, pollinating insects, green roofs and corridors for sustainable mobility, are just some of the NBS proposed by the thirteen teams to the City of Turin and Environment Park, organisers of the event together with the University of Turin, Politecnico di Torino, Fondazione di Comunità Mirafiori, OrtiAlti, Polo di Innovazione CLEVER, in the framework of Torino City Lab.
The teams will be supported in their work by numerous tutors with experience in NBS.The moments of work will be alternated with interactive games and spaces for comparison.
Among the schools, the challenge has already started last week at the Pertini Institute in Turin with Young Climathon.
In the last few days of classroom presence, the 3D class of the secondary school deepened the themes of Nature Based Solutions listening to the interventions of experts connected remotely and presented the first projects of regeneration of the "Ex Combi" Area object of the challenge.
At the end of the 24 hours of competition, on Saturday 14th at 1pm a jury of experts will announce the winners in a public live streaming visible both on the YouTube channel of"Torino City Lab" and on the facebook group "Climathon Torino". The live broadcast will start from the morning at 08.00 with the Yoga of awakening.
The winning team will work side by side with the design group of the University and Polytechnic of Turin, to develop the proposal and implement their project. It will also win the NBS Award, which includes an urban horticulture course of 8 meetings at Orti Generali.
The special Eco Champion award will go to the team that will be more active in the many moments of play and entertainment scheduled.
