Today, February 18, with the installation of the first sensor in the parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities in front of the Cottolengo hospital, we officially started the DEPS project, an experiment proposed by the startup IOT Solutions and implemented within TCL.

At the moment of the symbolic laying of the sensor were present together with the Mayor Chiara Appendino, the Councillor for Roads Maria Lapietra and the Disability Manager of the City Lepore.

Together with TCL, the actors involved in the experimentation are the Consulta per le Persone in Difficoltà (CPD), Lions Distretto Ia1 - L.C. Stupinigi 2001, Unione Italiana Ciechi ed Ipovedenti sez. Torino (UICI) and the Confederazione Nazionale dell'Artigianato e della Piccola e Media Impresa (CNA).

DEPS - an acronym for "Disabled Easy Parking System" - aims to simplify moving around the city for people with disabilities. Through a special app it will be possible to know in advance the exact location of the parking spaces and their state of occupation, for the benefit of a better planning of the itinerary and a more serene mobility policy.

DEPS aims to support the experimentation of 5T which is developing a smart parking on 132 disabled parking spaces service for disabled stalls in hospitals, in order to create an open protocol among the various technologies emerging in the sector.

Thanks to the collaboration with TCL, the project will be tested for the first time in an urban setting. There will be two testing areas, with a total of 10 parking spaces involved: the Cottolengo Hospital and Largo Cibrario.

The stalls will be equipped with innovative radiofrequency sensors embedded in the road surface, with a very long battery life (5-7 years) and minimal installation and supply costs.

After the installation of the sensors, the application will be tested and released on an experimental basis to the members of Consulta Persone in Difficoltà and the Unione Italiana Ciechi ed Ipovedenti.

A sample of users will be interviewed to evaluate how useful and improvable the system is and how much it contributes to improve the mobility experience of users.

The last phase of the project includes the monitoring of the stalls to understand their level of use, proper and improper.

DEPS is an important declination of "innovation at the service of citizens' quality of life"(Chiara Appendino).
