Open Living Lab Days 2022 are just around the corner!
The event, organized by ENoLL, the European network of living labs, and co-organized by the City of Turin, the House of Emerging Technologies - CTE NEXT and Torino City Lab, the Turin's innovation lab, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and the participation of the European Commission, will be held at OGR - Officine Grandi Riparazioni from September 20 to 23.
This year's Open Living Lab Days has as its main theme "The City as a Lab, but now for real! Re-working open innovation environments for inclusive, green and digital transition through emerging technologies."
About 300 international guests are expected, including policymakers, companies, entrepreneurs, academics, Living Lab representatives and innovators.
14 workshops have been selected for the event, including one organized by Urban Lab and Links Foundation on nature-based solutions, and 36 research papers, including one presented by the University of Turin.
The event kicks off on Sept. 20 with Learning Living Lab, Day 0, a one-day training course offered to newcomers to the Living Lab community and living lab professionals, interested in learning more about the key elements and typical operations of "living labs."
Two days of panels, "inspirational talks," workshops and paper research presentations are scheduled for Sept. 21- 22.
Panels include "Scaling up, scaling out, scaling deep for social innovation," "Comparing the Urban Living Labs Models, from large cities to small urban centers" and "Start-ups & Emerging Technologies: hubs, policies and opportunities to boost vibrant local ecosystems in Italy and beyond" organized by the City of Turin, European Funds and Innovation Division.
On Friday, Sept. 23, three different site visits to strategic points of innovation in Turin are scheduled as examples of European-level best practices.
The three tours will touch respectively on:
- the main destinations of Turin's technological innovation - the Innovation Mile, CSI NEXT, Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, Cim 4.0;
- nature-based solutions implemented in Turin's Mirafiori district through the European projects proGireg and Fusilli;
- finally, some strategic places of Turin's social innovation and its industrial reconversion - Open Incet, Nuvola Lavazza, Viale Mai within the Tonite project.
But many other surprises are on the program such as the innovative walking during lunch that brings participants to meet the startups present in OGR for an interesting exchange between living lab professionals and startuppers.
Keynote Speakers include Carlos Moreno, Colombian academic, urban planner and popularizer at the Sorbonne in Paris; Jeff Cherry, CEO, entrepreneur, business executive, startup consultant, investor, speaker and writer; Gianluca Galletto, former CEO at the New York City Housing Authority's Bureau of Housing, with a focus on completing the green transition of public housing in the iconic US metropolis, now leading numerous innovative smart city-themed projects.
Among the expected guests are city politicians, from Mayor Stefano Lo Russo to Councillor for Ecological Transition, Chiara Foglietta.
"The OLLD are the best opportunity for Living Labs and LL enthusiasts to meet and network, while learning and experimenting in 14 interesting hands-on workshops, having great policy and thematic conversations in the topic debate sessions, and listen and interact with the best researchers selected for their papers. We are looking forward to meeting finally again in person in the wonderful Torino, hosted by Torino City Lab one of our most dynamic ENoLL Members. See you there!" said Martina De Sole, Director of ENoLL.
