The European GNSS Agency (GSA) has just launched the MyGalileoDrone. competition.

Mission: design, develop, test and prepare for commercial launch a drone-based application and/or service able to provide a position and/or time fix by using Galileo-enabled receiver.

Each participating team must propose an application/service related to one of the following areas of innovation:

  • Drones for the European Green Deal
  • Drones for the European Digital Strategy
  • Drones to protect our European way of life
  • Drones for European resilience and recovery.

Proposals should address applications and services that support key EU priorities. The GSA is looking for pioneering ideas in applications such as smart mobility, sustainable agriculture or environmental protection or solutions that exploit synergies between 5G and spatial data or support the IOT.

The application/service presented should also demonstrate that the increased accuracy/availability provided by Galileo provides added value.

The first prize of the competition amounts to €100,000, €60,000 for the second prize, €40,000 for the third prize and €30,000 for the fourth prize.

The competition closes on 31 August. The selected projects will be announced on 15 September and will have until 30 November to develop a demo version of their proposed application or service.

In the final, in January 2021, the selected teams will run the demo developed live and present their ideas to investors.

During the development process, candidates will receive tutoring and coaching from recognised experts in the drone market who will accompany them as they develop their applications to be ready to enter in the market.
